Celebrated on the first Saturday in May, Pilates Day is devoted to honoring the work of Joseph Pilates in studios around the world. With hundreds of workout routines, Pilates genius was in understanding the biomechanics of the human body and all the ways movement heals.
While he never achieved notoriety before passing away in 1967 at the age of 83, today the work of Joseph Pilates is more popular than ever.
Three keys that make Pilates a standout in the crowded exercise scene are:
- The mind-body connection is the cornerstone of Pilates. Pilates helps you focus and keeps your attention on track for the whole hour.
- Pilates is all about alignment, aligning your mind, muscles, and joints with precise movement.
- The strengthening of your powerhouse that helps you rebalance and build strength in your spine.
As Joseph Pilates said, “change happens through movement and movement heals.”
Joseph Pilates’ work deserves to be celebrated for helping so many people heal through movement. I hope you feel those wonderful changes when you come to class, and I hope it’s what keeps you coming back for more great Pilates.
