Barb Kahovec was drawn to yoga nearly forty years ago while growing up in Oak Park, Illinois. After studying with many local luminaries in the Midwest, Barb was certified in 2001 at the Temple of Kriya Yoga in Chicago. In addition to teaching group classes for Yoga and Pilates, Barb works individually with a number of private clients. Her students range in age from eighteen to eighty-one.
Since 2010, Barb has been developing a wellness program at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois. She teaches yoga, meditation and Pilates through the Kinesiology department. Along with her regular classes, Barb has taught the women and men’s basketball, football, wrestling and soccer teams ways to use yoga to cross-train and stay healthy. Barb has also worked with special needs students in a program to help those with disabilities attend college.
In 2014, Barb received the “I Am Elmhurst” award in recognition of her efforts to make a difference in the lives of college students.
Barb recently published the guide, “Yoga for the Student Body,” to help beginning students get established in practice. The book also includes essential information on nutrition and sleep to help students stay healthy during the often stressful college years.
Barb believes yoga has so much to offer students of all ages and provides a healthy platform to move through life.
